Better Half of Me

That I’d have all I need
If you were standing right in front of me
I’ll finally see what it means to be complete
Don’t need to spend our lives chasing gold
Anywhere with you, I’ll call my home
Oh, I’d have all I need
If you’d be the better half of me

I had this song played for over a hundred times. Something magical about it; the music, the lyrics. Perhaps I watched too much romcoms lately, but now I want the lovey-dovey, butterflies-in-tummy thingy more than ever. I miss the chasing. I miss the mind-guessing game.

The search ain’t that easy though. I made a (mental) list thoroughly. I got the boxes ready to be ticked. Where’s my prince charming?

I’m sitting on beanbag, facing my own reflection in the mirror. A girl in oversized white shirt, looking exhausted, staring back at me with the same curiosity. She’s been living in her own fairy tale waiting for life to push her back to reality. Where’s my prince charming?

That I’d have all I need
If you were standing right in front of me

I take a closer look at her. I haven’t been really nice to her lately. I compared her to every other human beings. I blamed her for not looking better, not thinking smarter, not trying harder.

I take a closer look at her and notice scars the eyes fail to see. Scars from carrying baggages of her past and some more of others’. She wanted to save everyone. She wanted the gold medal. She wanted to be their prince(ss) charming.

You’ll always be my number one
A whole lot more than good enough

I hold her tight and let her rest. She hated being such a mess, hoping to feel the least content, she confessed.

I brought her closer to my chest. “Thank you for doing your best,” I whispered.

I’ll finally see what it means to be complete
Don’t need to spend our lives chasing gold
Anywhere with you, I’ll call my home
